How can I live a more eco friendly life?

With little things, we can make a contribution to the environment every day. Here are a few little tips with which you can make your everyday life more resource-efficient and environmentally friendly.

Ride a bike over a car

Leave your car and go on foot or ride a bike. Small purchases are also easy to manage, and you save fuel and CO 2 emissions. This is not only good for the environment and your wallet, you keep yourself fit and look after your health at the same time.

Save electricity and money with every cup!

Does it always have to be a whole pot of boiling water? In future, you will only heat as much water as you really need, another advantage: Less water boils faster, so you have more time for other things!

Sharing is fun and saves money

Share your tools and garden tools! Does every house on the street really need its own lawnmower, toolbox, or steam cleaner? If you talk to each other, everyone only needs to buy one utensil, and still, everything you need is close at hand.

The gift of time

Instead of looking for expensive birthday gifts that then just catch dust in the corner, the next time you just give your time. This is often what makes loved ones happy the most. Whether you go on a nice excursion together or spend a few hours renovating or gardening, spending time together is always the best, it reduces our consumption and saves money.

It doesn't always have to be full throttle!

On motorways, stay at around 110 km / h instead of accelerating to 130-140. Fuel consumption increases at high speeds, and the car emits more CO 2.

Put the lid on

Do you like to cook, and do you often? Then don't forget to put a lid on your saucepan so that fewer heat escapes and your meal is ready faster. This saves not only energy and money, but also time.

Make your own compost!

Compost soil from the hardware store costs around € 10 for 60 liters. A pile in your garden is free, you don't have to lug the heavy bags, and you know exactly what's in it.

Commuters watch out!

Do you have a car but only drive it one or two days a week? How about if you share your car? Car sharing platforms bring car owners together with occasional drivers. Sharing a car saves money and reduces consumption. If you don't want to leave your car in the hands of someone else, you can also join carpools; this is a cost-effective alternative, especially for regular commuters, and the driver gets petrol money for his services.

The Pedibus

Start a "Pedibus" for your children. A pedibus is a walking school bus that children use to go to school together in the morning. Some municipalities in Austria have already implemented the pedibus to school.

Cleaning without chemicals

Reduce your cleaning costs by using lemon juice, soda crystals, and baking soda. This gives you fittings that shine, you can easily loosen grease and clean coated work surfaces. Not only does this save money, but it's also better for the environment than working with harsh chemicals.

Sowing and Harvesting

Get your children excited about gardening by letting them have their own little vegetable patch. The children are happy when their work bears fruit and are more willing to eat these healthy foods.

Lending instead of buying

Did you know that libraries often lend not only books, but also music, DVDs / Blue Rays, and console games? You don't always have to buy everything yourself, because most of the time you read a book only once, watch a film only once and games get boring over time. Borrowing is a good alternative!

Save energy

Switch to LED bulbs. They are a little more expensive to buy, but in terms of their lifetime, they are considerably cheaper than conventional light bulbs and more environmentally friendly than energy-saving lamps.

Correct ventilation

Is it unbearably hot in summer, and you shiver quickly in winter? Then it would be time to ventilate properly. During the hot season, it is important not to let the warm air into the apartment, preferably keep the windows closed during the day and darken with blinds/curtains. When it gets dark and cooler outside, ventilate well - it is best to open two opposite windows so that the fresh air can pass through.
